Because it’s inexpensive, is the most popular farmed fish in America.

However, health experts are warning consumers to avoid Tilapia at all cost!

  • There are very few nutrients in Tilapia: Researchers at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine recently released a report about the omega-3 fatty acid found in popular fish.

Tilapia scored much lower than most of the other fish on the list. Omega-3 fatty acids are what gives fish most of their benefits, which includes a risk reduction of Alzheimer’s.

As a matter of fact, Tilapia contains LOADS of omega-6 fatty acids, which are horrible for you. The amount of omega-6 in Tilapia is higher than hamburger or bacon.

Unlike most other fish, Tilapia can actually cause Alzheimer’s disease:

One of the omega-6 fatty acids found in Tilapia is called arachidonic acid- and this compound greatly increases the exact kind of inflammatory damage that comes before Alzheimer’s.

So, although eating healthier fish such as mackerel, halibut and sardines actually reduces your risk of developing Alzheimer’s, Tilapia actually increases it!

Most of the Tilapia consumers eat is farmed: Tilapia is the second most commonly farmed fish on Earth. This is mostly because of the fish’s hardiness; they can eat almost anything, which is great for the farmer’s, but bad for consumers.
