Over-the counter solutions and 24-hour pest control services can help you get rid of ants, but these employ the use of toxic chemicals. Regular use of such services can cause detrimental effects on your health and the environment. Here are some natural ways to help you get rid of the ant invasion.

Cinnamon
Sprinkle some cinnamon powder in your cabinets, near your doorways and entrances to prevent ants from infesting the space. Besides, you could soak cotton balls in a few drops of cinnamon essential oil and leave them around your home.

Lemon juice

The acidic properties of lemon can interfere with the ants’ sense of smell. After you have squeezed the juice of a lemon, mix it with a cup of water to prepare your ‘anti-ants spray’. You can also soak a few cotton balls in undiluted lemon juice and leave them in places where you spot ant forays.

Cayenne pepper

On account of its strong scent, cayenne pepper destroys the chemical signals that ants rely on while navigating towards food or their colony, helping you get rid of them effectively. Sprinkle some powder in the ant-prone zones of your home, like your kitchen, to permanently get rid of them.

Peppermint

This acts like a natural insect repellent due to its strong smell, preventing ants from detecting food sources. You could boil some leaves in two cups of water and once it cools, spray the solution in spaces where ants attack. Using a cotton swab, you can also apply a few drops of peppermint essential oil along these spaces to repel ants.

White vinegar

The strong scent of vinegar can easily mask the ants’ scent trails, making them lose their sense of direction. Mix a half-a-cup each of water and vinegar in a spray bottle and shake well. Spray this solution to immediately get rid of ants.
